Hello, my name is Sarah
LPC # 77290
Hi there, I am so happy you have found my page, and look forward to meeting you. I would like to take a moment to share a little about myself, so that you get a sense for me as a person, and for how interacting with me may feel.
Something you may be curious about is why I became a therapist. There’s a long version and a short version, so I think I’ll give you the medium version. I’ve always enjoyed connecting with people. I have always enjoyed building relationships with others, and helping where and when I can. I can honestly say I had a unique childhood. I grew up in the country, along with my older brother. I have a lot of life experiences that have helped me with being subjective, and have cultivated who I am today.
I did not always want to be a therapist. It took me awhile to find my calling, and I am truly happy with my career. After I graduated high school, I attended culinary school in Rhode Island. Rhode Island was a little too far for me, and I did not do very well. I transferred back home, and finished my culinary degree. I discovered I loved to cook, but not as a career. During culinary school, we had a nutritional psychologist as a guest speaker in one of my classes. I thought it was fascinating what she did, and decided I would finish my culinary degree and then go into psychology. I learned I needed a doctorate for what I wanted to do, and decided to change career paths yet again to becoming a registered dietitian. I am not very good with chemistry, so I looked into being a personal trainer. My nephew made a suggestion to become a school therapist. I decided to continue my schooling for this reason, but found out I would mostly be doing testing and schedule making. I tried to become a licensed chemical dependency counselor, but decided this was not for me. I decided to do a practicum at a community mental health agency, and fell in love with what I did. I completed my Master’s degree and am now a Licensed Professional Counselor.
During my journey, I was able to spend time with people who were different than me, which has helped expand my mind, understand, admire, and connect with people who have a wide variety of views, beliefs, and experiences. After I graduated college, I worked at a community mental health agency that has provided me with a lot of experiences in many different areas of mental health. It is a lot of work, but I am truly grateful for the opportunity to work with so many different people, and in different capacities.
I am a mother of three wonderful children. My oldest was born with congenital heart disease, dextrocardia, and heterotaxy. He has a lot of physical health issues, and is a strong warrior. He is also diagnosed with PTSD, Anxiety, ADHD, and Autism. I am also blessed with a daughter and another son that seem to not have any major health issues. I was married to my high school sweetheart, however we decided we worked better as friends, and divorced after 12 years of marriage. We are still great friends, and he very involved.
I share all of this with you to give you a better picture of who I am and how I do things. I’m not rigid or super structured, I follow my intuition, and because of my unique upbringing, I am able to connect and empathize with a lot of different people with various backgrounds, values, views, etc. More than anything, this aspect of my life has prepared me to be a therapist.
I am passionate about the human experience, and I currently see my mission as empowering others to explore their identity, discovering their authentic selves, and allow themselves to step into their truth. It is important to know I am on this journey of life myself! I’m not a therapist who thinks she has all the answers, or who’s going to give you my opinions as fact, or who will tell you exactly what you should do. I see my role as a dedicated partner here to collaborate with you and assist you in uncovering all the layers that make you who you are.
